About Us

The Department of Translation and Interpreting at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, which aims to provide education and training in the field of written and oral translation, was first established in 2015 within the School of Foreign Languages, and was moved to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 08.11.2023.

The aim of the four-year undergraduate program of the Department of Translation and Interpreting (English Translation and Interpreting) is to train translators who are fluent in Turkish and English, who know the cultures of both languages ​​well, and who are proficient in these languages ​​at a level that allows them to perform both oral and written translations in a globalizing world where the need for interlingual and intercultural communication is rapidly increasing. Our department aims to run a program that is constantly renewing itself, dynamic, and supported by national and international cooperation agreements and projects.

Graduates of the Department of Translation and Interpreting have a wide range of job opportunities, including written and oral translation, language expertise, language and culture consultancy, editing, book translation, subtitle translation, academic profession, and translation office management in areas such as the tourism sector, ministries, embassies, banks, media organizations, international companies, educational institutions and publishing houses, where there is a need for personnel equipped with advanced knowledge of English language and culture.

Our vision is to be a dynamic and innovative department that provides translation education at an international level in Turkey, shares information and cooperates with well-established universities, institutions and organizations both nationally and internationally, and contributes to the scientific world and the development of the country with its studies.

Our Mission

Our mission is to train oral and written translators who have developed Turkish and English language awareness, have universal values, strong synthesis skills, know at least one other foreign language besides English at a level where they can translate, have field knowledge and terminology in subjects such as social sciences, technology, medicine, political science, literature, economy, history, follow current translation practices and developments in this field closely, have a command of the use of constantly developing language and translation technologies, have research awareness and have adopted the ethical values ​​of the translation profession.
